Search engine optimization is a not so old concept in the context of websites. Before the invention of new age search engine algorithm it was the era of spammers. Manual submission was done for search engines. The new age algorithms are not taking these things into consideration. There are so many techniques available which may boost your ranking for a temporary period but ultimately leading its way to a banned website by search engines. Key word stuffing: key word stuffing is a technique used by some of the designer to mislead the search engines count the page as the most relevant page on the web. Here a designer overloads the pages with keywords as search engines search for the words in the pages that has been given in the search criteria. It's always necessary to put the keywords, in title, heading, content and hyperlinks etc. But don't stuff it by using invisible text, hidden input tags or duplicate tags. One should avoid keyword stuffing to avoid a spam filter and it also sounds ridiculous to the readers. On the other hand some of the search engines count this as an unethical practice so may even ban the web page. Meta refresh: Meta refresh are the Meta tags that is used in a HTML document. This redirects the user to another page after a certain time period, specified by the designer. The Meta refresh tag is written in the following format,

The problem associated with Meta refresh is that when it is redirected automatically the user does not gets a chance to go back, being the back bottom inactive. The W3C's guideline also discourages the use of this tag. And generally the search engines don't index the pages that use Meta refresh.

Cloaking: the technique is also known as stealth. The page offered to the search engines for indexing and page offered to the users differs, by use of technique called cloaking. So in the knowledge of the search engine the search results are most relevant to the word searched for while the user is not satisfied. This is considered as one of the black hat techniques because the webmaster may spend his time to build up a page to be offered to the search engine spiders. The page might have been search engine friendly but users might be facing difficulty.

Doorway Pages: Just like in cloaking the door way pages are build with a purpose of getting a higher rank with the search engines. Under this techniques while the search engine indices are tried to be spammed by inserting a different page in the search engine index and a different page for the user. Some of the most used techniques for doorway pages are low tech delivery, agent delivery and IP delivery. Mostly search engines need genuine pages and the most dangerous part with these doorway pages are that search engines can't spot them automatically, so if found the page has to be penalized. Scraper site: with the advent of Adsense from Google many scraper site are prepared for taking the benefit. These are the website those generally pull content from other sites by using web scraping. These sites are also called as Made for Adsense sites or MFA. These sites spasm the search engines as they provide not so satisfactory result. Most interestingly the authors of these sites don't hesitate to violate the Web Site Content Copyright Protection act.

Link farms: link farming was invented keeping in mind the advantage of link popularity a measure. Link farm is a group of web pages which hyperlink to each others page. The main purpose of link farming was to increase the links for that site. But mostly search engines like Google count the quality and quantity of link so also the no of inbound links. Search engines are considering link farming as spam. Google bomb: in the recent past if the user searched for a word Miserable Failure, American president Gorge W bush was topping the result page. The exploitation was made by bombing on Google. Google does not exactly give importance on what is there on the web page. Secondly it gives importance to keyword, and ranks a page on the basis of no of links they have and the phrase used to describe the links. Google bomb is away to exploit the ranking on Google page. This type of bombing is mostly done for political or humorous intention. Google juice: Google juice is a term related with the rank position of the site in the search result. Generally refers to ability of a web site to top us in a Google search. The better the position more is the juice with that site. Google's page rank system is based on the no of links to that page. So some Bloggers and webmasters try to juice up by way of manipulating links.
